A Brand New Chapter

It is time I started
to take control
and relegate you to
a minor role.

It is time I stopped
listening to you
now I know what you tell me
is not true.

It is time I took a look
at myself in the mirror
and correct the things
I have done in error

like when I believed you
when you said I was no good,
you were the one
who ruined my childhood.

As the years passed
your voice grew louder
and from family and friends
I fell from favour.

Now I know I have no choice
but to fight back,
to stand up and defend myself
from your constant attack.

It is only then when I have turned
your voice to a whisper
then my life can begin
a brand new chapter.
